A social project is underway to raise awareness about the
poor in Singapore -- called Singaporeans Against Poverty, its purpose is to
highlight that amid the relative affluence in the society, there are those who
struggle.
Organised by Caritas Singapore, a Catholic social action
body, the project is expected to span three to five years.
In a statement on Saturday, Caritas' Advocacy Committee
Chairman Laurence Lien said, "We want to set everyone thinking about the
poor in Singapore. Who are they? Why are they in such a plight? How do they
survive?"
