On 8th Nov 2014, the "super mega" Typhoon Haiyan made landfall in the Philippines. It caused major destruction and ruined many lives including more than 3000 dead.
Joining hands with many other organisations (in Singapore and internationally), the SSVP, Conference of the Risen Christ did a busking event in the Church hall to raise funds in aid of the victims.
The event was well supported by the parishioners and they donated generously to hymns, oldies, mandarin songs and songs in dialects. Some parishioners also joined in and sang.
The total amount raised was $2560.05.
The amount will be forwarded to the National Council of Singapore who will donate the amount to the National Council of the Philippines.
The Conference of the Risen Christ would like to thank the Fr. Sim for supporting the event. Gratitude also goes out to the parishioners of the Church of the Risen Christ and those who has helped in the event.
May God gives the people of the Philippines courage and walk with those who is relying on Him.

Agape Villlage
Agape Village when completed will have 4,200 sq meters in a 4-storey space next to the First Toa Payoh Primary School and the new Good Shepherd Place currently being built by the Good Shepherd Sisters. It will stand at the fringe of HDB’s light industrial estate and a distance away from the residential blocks.
In Singapore, you will not see beggars on the streets or hungry children scavenging for food, but the poverty gap is growing wider and there is a desperate need to connect those on the breadline to the services which can make a difference to their lives.
Tens of thousands of families are ensnared in an unforgiving poverty trap with little or no means to break free and make a better life for themselves. According to the Ministry of Manpower’s 2011 statistics, 307, 000 Singaporeans and PRs earn less than $1,500 a month. And of these, 110,000 earn less than $1,000 a month.
Agape Village will be a one-stop hub where people in need can connect to the 23 charities and services co-ordinated by Caritas Singapore, the social arm of the Catholic Church in Singapore.
Agape Village will bring together the common services of our Catholic charities under one roof – integrated case management, counselling, legal aid, medical aid, care-giver support, skills training and job matching for displaced workers and professionals, mentoring and life skills, coaching for the poor and marginalised in our society.

Singaporeans Against Poverty
A social project is underway to raise awareness about the
poor in Singapore -- called Singaporeans Against Poverty, its purpose is to
highlight that amid the relative affluence in the society, there are those who
struggle.
Organised by Caritas Singapore, a Catholic social action
body, the project is expected to span three to five years.
In a statement on Saturday, Caritas' Advocacy Committee
Chairman Laurence Lien said, "We want to set everyone thinking about the
poor in Singapore. Who are they? Why are they in such a plight? How do they
survive?"

Mass and Potluck
This Tuesday, instead of our weekly meeting, about twenty Vincentians gathered to celebrate Mass at St. Michael's room. We had the privilege of having Father Loiseau, who had just been discharged from the hospital a day ago, celebrate the Mass. After the Mass, we had a potluck party where everyone had a good time chatting while enjoying the food.

Vincentians visit to Gift of Love Home on 12th May 2013
On 12th May 2013, some Vincentians from the Conference of the Risen Christ visited Gift of Love Home at Jurong.
The visit started with a Mass at the home. Celebrating Mass was a priest from India who said that we can be mother to each other if we show the kind of love a mother would have for a child (it was also Mothers' Day on 12th May 2013).
The Conference catered lunch for the 30+ residents and helped to feed them.
Naturally we also helped in cleaning up the place before taking leave.

The National Council of Singapore organised a Mass for all the Friends-In-Need (FINs) in Singapore. All Catholics FINs were invited.
Celebrated by the Archbishop, Vincentians were urged to see Christ in the FINs and to bring Christ to the FINs.
7 FINs from Conference of the Risen Christ attended the Mass with some members. Our Spiritual Director, Father Louis Loiseau, con-celebrated Mass.
I apologise for the blurry photograph as I took the photos quickly while the Mass was going on.

Who says there's no free lunch in Singapore?
Where to find free meals in Singapore
The
storm of recession is blowing all over the world. As the stock markets continue
to go south and companies are tumbling the storm is blowing many employees out
of their jobs. Although Singapore is one the richest countries in Asia, there
are many poor people in its midst who cannot afford the soaring food price and
the high cost of living.
Many
of the needy are the silent workforce - foreign workers. Their salary are so
low that Singaporeans would not take these jobs. Most of their salaries are
sent home to their families or pay off up to a year's worth of debts
Help
is available for the needy. Yes, there is such a thing as free lunch in
Singapore. Some religious associations and welfare groups provide free meals.
The bills are sponsored by members of these groups and business people.

every month to needy recipients for a year. You can exchange the $3 voucher for
a free meal at selected food staff at some of the coffee shops in Bukit Merah
View and Henderson Road.
Sutha
Restaurant. This restaurant at Cuff Road
provides free breakfast (from 7am to 9am) and dinner on weekdays only and lunch
on Sundays. This is for stranded Indian workers in Singapore whose beds are the
concrete walkways along Cuff Road. These distressed migrants are abandoned by
their employees after their work injury or they are duped by the agents. To
qualify for the free food, participants are asked to show a Special Pass (a
